That´s the way:
Phrasal Verbs
Hi guys, já falamos sobre preposition and today we are going to speak about “phrasal verbs”. Do you know what a phrasal verb means?
Trata-se de um verbo mais outra palavrinha junto a ele (geralmente, uma ou mais preposições). The thing is they can’t be interpretados palavra por palavra.
See some examples:
Get in: (to arrive – chegar, entrar). “Do you know what time Fred’s plane gets in?”
Get on: (enter a large, closed vehicle – subir). “I’m sorry, but you’re too late to say goodbye to Angela. She got on the plane about 20 minutes ago.”
Get up: (leave bed after sleeping and begin your daily activities – levantar-se). “I was still feeling sleepy, but even so I had to get up early in the morning.”
Get down to: (começar a fazer algo). “We really didn’t find time yet to get down to these issues.”
Get across: (make something understood; communicate something understandably – transmitir algo ou idéias). “Alan is really intelligent but sometimes he has problems getting his ideas across.”
Get ahead: (make progress – progredir). “I can’t get ahead even though I work two jobs.”
Get along with (have a good relationship – dar-se bem). “Giovanna doesn’t get along with her two brothers.”
Get around (go many places – sair). “It’s easy to get around town with public transportation.”
Get out: (escape having to do something – sair, escapar de algo). “After the bump all passengers got out the car to see what really had happened.”
Get off: (leave (a bus, plane, train, boat) – descer). “The door was locked and they couldn’t get off the bus in flames except through the windows.”
Well, try to memorize little by little, praticando, construindo outras orações. Assista aos filmes, seriados, com atenção. Seja observador e não perca a oportunidade de usar o seu inglês, ainda que cometa erros. Você só aprenderá, praticando.
Have a good week! See you!
